Mathematics education continually benefits from innovative approaches that engage students actively in learning processes. The AR component of Math Worlds AR represents an attempt to integrate augmented reality into elementary mathematics instruction, transforming traditional textbook covers into interactive learning experiences.

Designed for students in grades K–6, the application requires users to scan the cover of the Student Activity Book or Teacher’s Edition from the Math Expressions 2018 program using a smartphone or tablet. Upon scanning, an augmented reality game appears, offering a dynamic and immersive experience intended to complement classroom instruction or serve as a brief, engaging homework activity.

The program encompasses a comprehensive range of mathematical topics aligned with each grade level, including counting and cardinality, number partners, basic operations, geometry, place value, money and measurement, fractions, decimals, integers, graphing, and expressions and equations. Each unit features a dedicated game level designed to reinforce these concepts through interactive gameplay.

The gameplay involves locating spheres hidden across a virtual map. Users can enhance their experience by physically moving their device around the cover or adjusting the cover itself. The game encourages quick recognition by awarding bonus points for swift sphere discovery and is structured to facilitate collaborative learning when students work in pairs.

Regarding data privacy and security, the app does not collect personally identifiable information nor contains social media sharing features or external links. It also does not track user location. For safety purposes, particularly for children aged 6 or younger, it is recommended to utilize child-safe device covers. Users are advised to handle the device carefully, avoiding pressing buttons outside the main screen to prevent accidental minimization or closure of the game.
